On March 7^th, twenty-seven eager little racers walked through the doors of Sumas International Motorsport Academy (SIMA) in hopes of winning one of ten kart racing scholarships. The SIMA scouts were not just hunting for the just fastest drivers, as speed doesn’t necessarily equate success in this sport. To move up the ladder, interpersonal skills are also a vital part of the equation. The children were judged on their ability to follow direction, respect for peers, elders and environment and overall attitude.

After much deliberation, the judges selected the top ten drivers who were offered a scholarship to race in the 2015 SIMA Series. SIMA would like to congratulate the following drivers!

The SIMA Summer Series consists of 6 race days, each of which includes practice, qualifying, a heat race and a final race. Race karts designed for ages 5-7 has been assigned to each driver, as well as full race gear. The drivers and families have visited the Sumas karting facility three times to orient themselves and more importantly to get the young drivers on track for practice. The racers were honing their skills and gaining confidence before heading into a competitive environment.  SIMA’s season opener and inaugural SIMA Series Kid Kart race will be held on Saturday, May 9^th. Kid karts hit the track for their first practice session at 10:30am. Spectators arriving after 10:00am pay only $2 for access into the pit.
