SIMA offers FREE Kart Racing for Kids

Sumas International Motorsport Academy (SIMA) is looking for 10 kids between the ages of 5-7 who would like to participate for FREE* in one of the greatest family sports Whatcom County has to offer, kart racing! On Saturday March 7^th, SIMA will host its inaugural Junior Driver Search try out. The 10 winners of the try out will be granted a fully paid* scholarship in the 2015 Summer Series of kart racing.

SIMA is a state of the art kart racing facility lying just south of the Canadian border in Sumas, WA. Among a wide variety of options, the track hosts a club level racing series called the SIMA Summer Series. The series consists of 6 Saturday races between the months of April to October.  Races attract both male and females ranging from 5 – 80 years old. The SIMA Series is known for attracting competitive, laid back and family oriented racers.

The tryouts will be a relaxed low pressure affair, giving each child the opportunity to get comfortable in a kart by going through a series of trials and eventually driving around the track itself. The drivers will be observed by our panel of judges who will evaluate their on-track performance and off track manners. The tryouts are exclusively for kids with no kart racing experience.

*The scholarship covers the use of a “baby” go-kart, all safety gear, 3 mandatory pre-race training days and 6 race days. All parents will need to contribute is transportation to the race, consented permission and a $50 registration fee at each race. Any damage incurred to the equipment is not covered in the scholarship. The winner of the 2015 Summer Series will receive a full scholarship to compete in the 2016 Summer Series.
